Copper Canyon Park

Copper Canyon Park

23789 Via Alisol

Murrieta has some parks in some amazing settings. Copper Canyon Park is one of them. The 18-acre park is near Copper Canyon Middle School on the west side of town. The park is on an old water district site and the city’s Community Services Department uses an old building for storage and several offices.

It is a little difficult to find since residents have to enter through a driveway right past the school exit. The park is down a hill.

I have been here four times and it is rare to find more than one or two parents at the park.

Park Features:

  • Two baseball fields
  • A basketball court
  • A bike/jogging trail
  • A concession stand
  • Community Center/Rec Room where classes can be held
  • A number of open grass areas
  • A soccer field
  • A Tot Lot with wooden chip ground
  • Sheltered playground

My little boy loved the tot lot. It has several tarps above the playground to provide some shade and he got to go on the slides at 11 a.m.

There are two separate playground areas. The first one is for the younger kids and it has two separate slides.

The second one my boy loved. It has several small rock walls to get up on the playground. Underneath is a fake house door with a mail slot. My boy kept delivering mail, in the form of wooden chips.

It also has slides. The only thing lacking were swings. Most kids love swings.

Next to the tot lot are several ball fields. Whenever I visited the fields and park were spotless, maybe because the city housed employees on site. The baseball fields were chalked and dirt graded.

What make this park special for me were the location and an Oak tree off the jogging trail.

The park is right next to a home that houses horses. My son spent nearly 30 minutes watching the horses run around and eat their food. It’s the kind of atmosphere that you would expect out of Murrieta.

The jogging trail was fun to walk on as it winds up above the soccer fields and smack dab is a large oak tree. It provides great shade and I loved listening to the chatter of squirrels and woodpeckers while there.

So if you have the time, head on out. It seems like a great park and I didn't mind driving across town to get there. In the summer, the city has a roving fun bus that comes during the week.
